Okay, I've taken my 2485 off for the first time. Very simple once I realized the drawbar should not be on.

Now, I'm trying to put it back on. I can't get the hydraulic lines reconnected due to I assume pressure in the backhoe lines. I can get the connectors in what appears to be far enough but I can't get the connector to slide back over and lock. I've tried working all the valves on the backhoe to relieve any pressure, but no luck. I did not put the backhoe on a pallet or blocks as the book said "may" be used. Is there a way to relieve pressure so that the hoses will insert fully?

in the past (when i forgot to relieve the pressure using the hand controls on the BH), i've used a set of large channel lock pliers; put the edge of the pliers over the nipple (on the BH line) and the hose connector and squeeze. hard to visualize this..

couple of things:

BE CAREFUL. wear safety goggles (glasses or sunglasses). the oil is under pressure, and will leak/squirt when you release the pressure behind the nipple. you may want to wrap a rag around it to prevent a small amount of oil from getting all over your hands/pants, etc.

in the future, make sure you remove the pressure by moving around the controls BEFORE you remove the hoses.

good luck.

I second the rag wrap method. Learned it the hard way. That stuff can go a ways really fast.

The A-N-B lever should be in N. Engine off, operate the lever to relieve pressure then put in N. Attach lines, then turn engine on. Also, best to hook up the hydraulics, THEN, use the outriggers and bucket to line up the BH.

Thanks for the replys. I was considering using the FEL to lift the hoe and set it on blocks to relieve pressure. But the channel locks and rag sound pretty simple if I be careful.

I understand, but the pressure is on the backhoe lines, not the tractor.

Thanks, the channel locks/rag worked great. Re-aligning everything wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. For my first re-attach, it took about 15 minutes after the hoses were connected. I'll take that.

Thanks again.

I guess I just don't understand the problem. I haven't ever experienced any high pressure in the lines.

Very, very common problem.
There have been threads on this dating back to when I joined TBN.
Whenever I head down to hook up the BH, I take a rag and a ball peen hammer. Works every time.

I've had it happen to me, I loosened the quick connects with a wrench, that relieved the preasure.

Glad it is all sorted out.
