All--

I have a 22 foot H&H trailer. I need a backup camera on the end of the trailer. I bought a popular 7" unit and it works out in the yard somewhat beyond the length of the trailer plus the 13 feet (guesstimate) to the cab of the truck. However, it doesn't handle obstructions well--like the sheetrock walls of the house--and I don't believe it is a sturdy unit.

What would you recommend? I would actually like to have a unit which will handle three cameras; rear and both sides of the trailer. Wireless would be fantastic, but I wonder if Bluetooth has the range I need? (About 35 feet, including the obstruction of my Komatsu SK 1024 or my Mahindra 5545.)

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Even if bluetooth had the range it doesn't have the bandwidth for good streaming video, especially if you have three cameras..

I have a Cab Cam on my tractor and I'm going to buy another to put on the back of my enclosed car trailer. Talked to the guy at US Farm Equipment ( I think that is the place, the books are in another building ) and he recommended going wired for the trailer and not a wireless camera as they are line of sight and the trailer may interfere with clear line to the monitor in the truck. I think I paid under $300 for mine for the tractor and they provide several cables one is almost 50 ft so it would work for a trailer

5ish + years ago I picked up a cheap wireless backup camera. Peak branded & under $100 I think. Mounted the camera on the back of my 7x14 cargo trailer. No signal up to the tiny receiver in my cab. I redid the wiring so I could mount the transmitter to the top front of the inside of the trailer. Now if I mount the screen up high I get a barely usable signal most of the time. I'm sure there are better systems out now, but probably not many at least on the cheaper end.

Im an IT guy. Personally I believe wire is always better than wireless unless there are mobility issues or something that absolutely prevent using wire. I bet you could make a decent plug & run wire to get a much better signal.

Simple add RCA cabling and extend lines so the transmitter/receivers are closer..

If you are talking to me, I did that, althouh it was a little harder as they had a propitary plug. That got me to barely usable signal as opposed to none. The transmitter is as far forward in the trailer as it can go without being out in the weather.

The reciever is a packaged unit. I might consider disceting it & move the reciever to the rear. I have the electronics skills. But its a tiny screen & crappy unit already. A better plan wil be to use a decent big screen monitor & just run cable all the way back to a wired camera.
