Wow... how did you find that old article? Made me feel like I was in a time warp! :) If only I could have known about the future way back then... and bought myself a Kubota franchise!!!

I'd me a multi-millionaire today! :)

I like this quote:

"Harvester estimates that 70% of the buyers of its Cub Cadet own less than three acres and that half earn less than $10,000 a than year. The tractors are usually less than 4 ft. high, have 6-to 10-h.p. motors, move at 5 or 6 m.p.h. They are expensive, ranging from $270 to $1,000, and I they frequently carry attachments that cost another $150 or more."

Hahahaahaa!!! :):):)

To put the prices in perspective, in 1965 give or take a year I bought a 3.5 hp, 24 inch power mower for less than $40. Of course OSHA would have a fit at the lack of safeguards.

I remember those days also, a 22" Murray mower for $39, with a Briggs and Stratton 3.5hp flat head, rapid torque rise engine..........ahhhhh, those were the days. Now we have 6.5hp, OHV push mowers.

Yes, people can't believe that I drive either a 48" snowblower, 46" tiller or 48" finish mower with my 1969 model 12HP Allis/Simplicity machines. With only 12HP it'll still git 'er done... and outmow many 2007 models.

The only safety device other than a few pulley guards is a neutral safety switch to prevent starting it in gear...

Meanwhile if you want to see competitive comparisons of these small JD, IH, Allis, etc. garden tractors from 1967 here's a couple links for you:

Compare Features

And here's the complete 1967 Allis-Chalmers pricelist, showing some of those attachments, such as a belly blade for $40, a turning plow for $93 or the expensive hydraulic FEL for $508 or a trip-bucket FEL for $304...

1967 Prices

Before you "pooh-pooh" their usefulness, however, look at some of the 40+ attachments available for them:

B Attachments

I'm still running a matching pair of 1969 models, an Allis-Chalmers and it's Simplicity equivalent...
