I replaced the battery. The alternator is not charging. There are two other wires that come off of the battery and head back to the control panel. There is a 3 mile amps draw off the battery. I can not find my manual to see a wiring schematics. Can some one please post the wiring diagram?
Thanks!
Chad

What model tractor do you have? The problem may just be a blown bulb. On some models, if the charging lamp bulb is blown, the alternator will not charge.

It is a 3510. What is a charging lamp bulb? There is a little wire that is coming off the positive side that is drawing 3 milliamps but I have no idea what it goes to. The tractor runs fine without the little wire but does anyone know what it goes to.

Here is a picture of the wire I am talking about.

According to my wiring diagram, it goes through a fusible link and then to the glow plug relay.
The glow plug relay has four wires.
black/yellow: from the battery
black: to ground
black/white: to glow plugs
black/red: to the glow plug timer

The black/yellow from the battery changes to a black/red when it passes through the connector to the fusible link. It then changes back to a black/yellow from the fusible link to the glow plug relay.

Hope this helps.

The charging lamp bulb (idiot light on the dash) thing doesn't apply to the 3510. There may be a definate possibility that one of the fusible links that GIJOE mentioned is bad. I have not run into this problem on a 3510 but I do remember something at one of the service schools about the fusible links. All I can remember right now is they are under the hood one I think down by the starter and I think one by the right side of the radiator. I believe it is a 2 wire plug with just a loop of fusable link wire. I will check tommorrow on the 4110 on the lot to see how my memory is. I'll be back in touch tommorrow.

If the fusible link is bad that would prevent any amperage draw on the battery. At just 3ma I'm thinking the glow plug relay may be bad (energized). I may be wrong, but worth looking into.

Joe, you are right. It is the fusible link! I pulled the fuse & it is bad. There is no continuity between the fuse posts.
Thanks for all the help.

So I have had my tractor running all summer without using the glow plug & haven't gotten around to replacing the bad fuse. Still can't find the owner's manual either. The fuse is yellow with nothing written on it. Does anyone know what watt it is? It is getting cold & the tractor is hard to start on the cold mornings. I am hoping to pick up a fuse tomorrow, but not sure which one to get.
Thanks,
Chad.

CJW,

Since after the hurricane, I don't get home till after dark, so I can't physically check to see what's in my tractor. According to my service manual, the glow plug relay is a 5 amp fuse, but it doesn't say what color it is. Most fuses are color coded. If you can find the right type of fuse then the same color will be the same rating. Hope this helps.
