Thought I had bad fuel when 231s Massey wouldn't make any power. I changed the fuel filter element and wiped out the sight bowl, even though there wasn't a spec of dirt or a drop of water in it. Ran the machine, no improvement. Undid the fuel line from the pump and blew it out with 65psi of air. The amount of fuel coming out of the line about tripled. I figured that had to be it. Ran the machine and there was a slight improvement. Disassembled the diaphram style lift pump that runs off the cam. Found 3 very small pcs. of "leaf" on top of the diaphram. I'm talking maybe 3/16" across. The owner's manual says there is supposed to be a mesh filter inside the pump. There was none to be found. Reassembled the pump and ran the machine. It was back to it's old powerful self.
I find it hard to believe that those 3 pcs. of debris could prevent the pump from working properly.
Any thoughts?
