Since I bought my 425 in April, I had always closed the fuel shut-off valve when I was done with the machine. At 25 hours, one night I failed to do so and the following evening, the machine wouldn't crank. Tried again and it PUKED oil/gas out of the carb. Saw the fuel tank was about dead level with the carb, checked oil and sure enough, crank case full of gas.

Drained the machine over night, changed oil & filter. Spoke with Terry and Subaru service center to make sure I wasn't going to do any further damage firing it up. It took a while to burn it all out of the exhaust but it ran.

I got the machine into the authorized Subaru service facility. They talked to Subaru rep and said the problem should be covered (but that normally any carb stuff is difficult to get coverage on). Instead of just replacing the carb (which I wanted since I had owned the machine only a month) they were authorized to rebuild with a rebuild kit. That was over a month ago. The riser gasket is on back-order through Subaru and they can't do the work without it. I left the machine there a week, then picked it up and we're still waiting on this gasket. I asked if I could just buy the gasket online and bring it in, but they said that Subaru requires that the parts come from them or the repair wouldn't be covered.

They said it would be fine to run the machine, just be certain the fuel shut-off was used every time. Right now, the machine will flood / choke out while running if the tank is filled any level over the carburetor. The back-order date on the gasket is now first week of July.

I've been impressed with the machine, but thankfully I don't use the machine for an income. Subaru taking care of their customers like their website states is a reach. I assume that the first week of July will come and go and the back-order date will just get pushed again.

I'm not really trying to accomplish anything with this post other than just complaining.

It certainly must be frustrating. But normally once you get your initial bugs worked out, it is good for a reasonable length of time.

Problems like this will turn a man against new equipment and warranties.

My curiosity is peaked. What does a Power Track carb problem have to do with Subaru? Does it have a Subaru engine?

My gasoline carb engined Ventrac has a Kubota engine, is it similar to that situation?

Then I bet it is a fine engine!

PRS,

Power-Trac warranties the machine with exception of the engine. The engine is a Subaru Robin EH72-2 and the warranty for the engine is through Subaru.

This is really just a frustration with the warranty process and getting this taken care of. Overall, I love the machine and we'll get it squared away and I'll get over it.

nope.

Don't confuse Subaru Automotive with Subaru-Robin Industrial Power Products. Two different factories. The Subaru Robin EH65 and EH72 motors in the Power Trac PT422 and PT425 tractors are small, vee-twin, gasoline, air cooled motors similar to the Kohler, Vanguard, and Kawasaki motors found in lawn mowers. Only possibly not as good....

We all wish we had Kubota engines...

I think my winter project this year will be to shoe-horn in a water cooled Kawasaki 31....

If I could I would like one of those two cylinder air cooled diesel engines to replace mine someday if I could get one.
