As you can see the pulley is kinda bent!!!! It took me two days to get it off the shaft. Lots of torch time, WD40 and the pulley jumped off about thirty times.. Getting another pulley is no problem... Now I am trying to get the blade off,, I do believe it is going to be harder than the pulley. Heat, WD40, impact wrench!!!!! Has not budged at all. Does anyone know if this bolt is counter or clockwise???? Tried both. Only thing I haven't done is drag it behind the truck down the road at 50 mph!!!!!
SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!!
NO!!!! That is not the final color of the mower!!! I know someone out there is saying;;; dang!!! I wouldn't paint my mower white.....

That looks suspiciously familiar to a Woods deck. I have a RM-48 behind a standard clockwise rotation PTO. My blade bolts are left-hand thread. You have probably been tightening instead of loosening. WD-40 is not much help as a penetrating oil. PB Blaster works pretty good and is readily available.

you may screw the bearing but, if you put enough heat on it. That bolt will come out

You know!!!! Gjamtrac sent me a message telling me it was counter clock. This morning I put it in a vise and went to work,, got it off. Now there is another problem,,, on the shaft where the pulley was is a piece that slides onto the shaft that holds the bearings in, it has a pin through it. Well it has turned on the shaft and the pin is bent inside the shaft,, been working on it. But this might be the stopping point,, but taking a break now....
Gjamtrac says he has this stuff in stock....

If it is a Woods and I think it is, the manual gives you the parts breakdown complete with detailed drawings and descriptions of how to replace the bearings. It also said that you would be money ahead to just buy a new spindle. Well, my brother and I tried to disassemble one by the book. Used heat and a press. Broke the spindle housing. New spindles as of about 2 years ago for the RM-48 were $111.00.

How much do you figure you saved by buying used? :D :D :D

I've worked with stuff like that all my life, tools and machines you buy cheap and renovate. Most of the time it's well worth it. (see my tractor pix. :) ) I own a lot of toys, that work fine, that I would never spend the money on to buy new.

But part of the process is to recognize it's a game of odds, and once in a while your new treasure turns out to be a dud. If this mower is going to need a couple of $100 spindles, I would retire it for parts and keep looking for a good one.

It sounds like you now have all the special brackets to adapt any Woods mower to your application, so your search for a good one can be broader.

I agree with buying used. After we broke that spindle I found a good used deck for $240. For the shape it is still in I would put a new spindle or two on it.

You guys hit it on the head.. It's work!!! But old farts like me just have to tackle something and see if it can be fixed. As far as the $$$;;; I can't afford a new one, so if I bought a used one;I would probably end up working on it... California!!!! Don't think I saved any $$$,, But didn't spend a whole lot of $$$. :D,,( Mower came with tractor.) Now;; Mr. Oliver: Since your a Tarheel,, I don't know about the Woods Mower, it says YM60A,,, Made in USA.... Maybe woods made it for yanmar... The spindle has been brazed as you can see in the picture, but is ok, if I just could get the shaft apart. Will try tomorrow!!!! The deck and rest of the mower is in really good shape, not beaten up or bent. I am going to look for a replacement spindle,, BUT !!!! I gotta try and get this one apart first.... WE ALL BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT  THE THING GAVE ME A MIGRAINE HEADACHE TODAY; HAD TO TAKE PAIN PILL AND GO TO BED !!!!!!
