Anyone had one of these folding bed tonneaus? How'd you like it...would you do it again?
How's long term durability?

I bought a 2006 F150 Supercrew with a 5.5 foot bed. The bed has the factory liner.
We want to put a tonneau cover on it. I do not want one of those hard (clamshell type) tonneaus. I've had the fabric ones that snap into place...wasn't thrilled with that type either (PITA to snap it in place if you roll the cover back).
I like both the BAKFlip and Extang folding covers, but would like to read some real world experiences.

I have 2 F150s with the 5.5 ft. bed. One has the Leer fiberglass bed cover that I really like. It is really is not viable for carrying anything large. When I purchased this it was "advertised " as something that you could take off if you needed to. (Yeah sure if you have 2 or 3 people and a couple of saw horses other wise forget it.)
So when I decided to purchase a cover for the second truck I purchased the BAKflip. I have only had it for about a year now but it is great. It has proved handy on a couple of times when you suddenly need more space, (ie: find a great sale item). If needed the whole top comes off without tools in a couple off minutes. It is even water tight, ok maybe water resistant is a better term. My wife and I traveled across country earlier this year and drove through several spring storms and luggage and other items in back stayed nice and dry. I tend to keep vehicles 10-12 yrs and I don"t know if the seals between the panels will hold up to the Texas sun that long but we will see. I like it enough that if I get 4-5 yrs out of it I would probably buy another one.

I had a Bakflip, and it was just O.K. It worked well, and kept the bed well sealed. I only had it about 3 years, and I though the durability wasn't going to be that great, but I'm not sure. I also like the way it would flip all the way up against the rear glass and protect it, and also get all the way out of the bed space.

I have also had the fabric ones and like you, hated to put them back on.

The one I had and like the best, and if I ever get another one will be the one I get, is the kind that roll up into a box at the front of the bed. A couple of companys make them, and I think Bakflip might make one also. The drawbacks for this style is the leak a little bit at the tailgate, and the box it rolls up in takes up a little space at the front of the bed. They are very easy to use, and roll up in about 2 seconds. They kind of roll up like the old style window shades.

i've had an extang 3 section fold-up tonneau for my truck since i bought it in the fall of 06. the truck lives outdoors in maine 24/365. occasionally the cover will spend between a day and a couple weeks folded up in the garage if i need to keep larger items in the body, but otherwise it stays on the truck. there are no signs of any wear that i can see, but i'm sure it would look faded compared to a brand new one. i'm also not one to wash & detail my vehicles, so the cover has never had any sort of treatment or care.

Extang solid fold worked great, easy off and on, fit good and no water leak. Very handy and great customer service. I bought one of the first ones they sold(had to wait for three months to get it) and the hinge for the rear panel was sticky and finally after a year failed. I called expecting a hassel and they were very helpful and shipped me a new one and a return shipping label, I just put old one in box and sent back. Second one was working great 5 years later when I sold truck.

I've got a Bakflip on my current truck and had a Bakflip on my last one. My next truck will have a Bakflip as will the one after that, etc. I like my Bakflip quite a bit if I'm not obvious enough. I didn't want to be messing around with having to take the tonneau cover off when I had my quad in the bed and also didn't want to give up too much bed space, particularly in my last truck with the 5.8 foot bed. My last Bakflip was completely waterproof. With this truck, I'll occasionally get a couple of drips right near the tailgate, but this truck also has a bedliner whereas my last one did not ( I just used a bed mat). I find my Bakflip to be the best combination of efficiency, security, utility, looks and convenience.

Roy did you get it I am looking at getting one myself and wonder how it went for you. I liked that when up it protects the rear window hadn't thought of that.

I have a factory GM one that folds about 6 times and straps into place....Goes on and off in any temp. Stays completely self contained, no rails to remove, and has a wedge near the tailgate to lock down..Slickest cover I've ever had. Water tight too.
