Has anybody used one of these bale skiis?

BaleSkiis Baler Liner

$677 shipped

For that price I am thinking weld up the floor and be good with it.

I just talked to Leland at Baleskiis and he is thinking I will still have to weld up my baler due to the location of the hole. The front of the sleeve uses the rear bolts of the hay resistors in the chamber and extends about 1" forward from there.

I looked at these too for my old NH 271. However, given the price, I can weld a lot of metal in the bale shut for the price.
Hence, next winter I'll be tearing the bale shut apart and replacing the rusted portions.

I think I'll also look into making a bale sweep while I'm at it.

What is a bale sweep?

Bale sweep is a great device is you are doing square bales.
It was originally patented in 1957 by A. L. Meyer and R. D. Meyer from Fairfield, Montana. Basically it connects onto the front of your tractor with things that look like forks that run along the ground and you scoop up your bales.
It can collect either 8 or 10 bales depending on the model.
Google Rock Mountain Bale Sweep as they are making an updated version that they use with a skid steer.
If you are doing a one man hay operation with squares it's better than an accumulator as is doesn't slide the bales and you can unload them directly onto a trailer or into your hay shed.
It's a great invention. Yankee inginuity.

Darin,
I looked at your photos and the Bale Skiis definately wouldn't solve your problem. They cover the area after your hole. I've just installed a set on a JD328 to get more consistent bale length for stacking a wagons using a grabber. I've only put 500 bales through them, but so far so good.

Fair enough.

I am going to weld up this hole and see if it will bale hay.

Then this winter I am going to go thru it, etc.

Did you see any improvement in your bale quality? Do you have any before and after pics?

Stampeder, Have you, or anyone you know, personally used a bale sweep? Other than the advertising video, which uses a skid loader, have you seen one in use with a tractor FEL? Thank you.

Baleskies, waste of money. Learn how to run your baler properly and you have no need of them.
