New baler prices (round balers) are pretty darn close with buying a new pickup truck! (Could likely buy a couple of new diesel pickups for the price of a new big square baler! )

I can research ballpark prices for a pickup truck on several internet web sites - edmund's, kellyblue book, etc.

Have no idea regarding a reasonable deal on a baler, though.

Can't recall a discussion here on TBN about negotiating a purchase for a new baler or like implements, either. MoCo, etc.

Lot's of information about tractor buying - nada on the "other" big-ticket items!

Anybody like to weigh in..?

What models are you looking at?

I'm sure the discount off list would be different in your area due to freight up.

A Claas rep had told me last fall they were shipping balers from dealers in Texas north as the drought had hurt sales in that region. He thought they were going to offer some discounts. I never investigated how much. I believe I read in one of the Farm Magazines I get that the only ag equipment that was down was hay equipment and this is from the lower 48 and the midwest where corn and soybeans are king. The problem in our area is that corn and beans are so profitable very few are making hay anymore. Farm ground is commanding $300 plus an acre for rent which was around $100 just 4 years ago.
Cost keep going up for fertilizer and fuel so I am going to stick with my older equipment for now.

We have JD and NH up here. One Kubota dealer, too. (I noted here on TBN that Kubota has bought into the Norwegian farm equipment manufacturer - maybe Kubota round balers are comin'! :D)

So, part's and service are realistically only JD and NH. I like the size and Hp requirements for the JD 458 silage special. Don't know what a similar NH would be. (If need be - I don't object to hauling it myself... Kinda like movin' up and down the road! ;) )

Thanks.

i used to get three or four dealers to compete for my buisness. now i have two dealers i can trust to give me the best price, without shopping around. i would love to use a round baler, but my wife feeds the horses in the stalls, so that would be a problem. i looked at a nh7050 today. that would be all that i would need. i didn't check on price because the owner wasn't there. probably would scare me anyways.

you should be able to knock off 10 to 15% of the dealer asking price of the baler.or better yet price everything,an then get your best package price on everything.

if you want a killer deal on a New Holland, wait until the end of a quater when they have sales goals to meet. They will throw stupid money to meet sales goals when they need to. Here at year end, we've been selling new discbines cheaper than our used ones are priced at.
