As you've now determined it's very important that the PH safety dog is not stuck and operable. Have you tried welding your broken needles?

I could weld, but one is broken, and the other is bent from being struck. So I do not have one to go by to determine the right angle to place them back too.
Safety dog, it doesn't have one, i wish it did.

I have an IH 47 baler.
And, it does have the safety stops... bit frustrating as they break sheer pins, but I suppose it is better than the mangled needles.

Let me know if you want any photos or measurements from the baler.

I need a total angle of the whole needle.
I looked in the box, there is no stops on this machine. if they were there they are gone. it was so frustrating, this baler has been sitting for over 7 years, outside at a friends home. I went up there told him use or loose it. he lost it. I spent a lot of time cleaning, and scrubbing, new this new that, machine this and convert that. it was baling perfect, then bam.

Do you have time to tinker with it?

I think the 37 and 47 balers are extremely similar, but I don't know all the differences. The 37 was supposed to be a little lighter duty baler. Some 36/46 parts may also interchange.

NeedleSafetyStopMechanism.JPG

Here is a photo of the needle safety stop mechanism on the IH 47. it is viewed on the bottom, a bit in front of the needles, viewed from the front of the baler. I can try to get more photos if you need it.

As far as the needles, the angle should be adjustable, I think. However, you would need the distance from where the needles bolt on to where the slot is? Right? Perhaps also the cord to the circle.

I'd rather measure the needle on the baler, but I could potentially get some construction paper and make a tracing sometime in the next week or so for precise measurements, and to mail you the tracing.

I also inform you that besides the needles the needle frame can also be bent/distorted to where even new needles can't be aligned correctly

the curvature of the needle is what I need. If I had that I could possibly put the radius back into it

I'm out of town for a couple of days. I'll try to pull one of the needles off this weekend (IH 47) and make a diagram.

If someone doesn't beat me to it, send me a PM with your address and I might be able to send a physical tracing.
