What brand of net wrap do you use and where do you buy it. I am using netextreme 51 x 9840 rolls, and I pay $325/roll, but I have to drive a long way to get it. Does anyone ship less than a pallet, or would shipping costs be too much.

I'm using Pritchett brand, and I just ordered a roll of 48" x 9840'. It cost $210 + $35 shipping. Go to their website at sales at Pritchett Twine, Net Wrap and Ag Sales of North Central Nebraska , get their phone number or email address, and find out where your nearest dealer is.

I've been using it for 2 years, and am well satisfied. Plus, it's American made!

Since your into baling hay, you might be interested in haytalk.com . It's one of my favorites.

What type crops do you bale and how many wraps do you apply? I read on Pritchett's website that they recommend 3 wraps for grass hay and I only use 2 wraps of Ambraco on my grass. My netwrap cost $321 and contains 13200 ft so it cost about the same per bale for either wrap. How long will Pritchett wrap survive on a bale out in the sun?
Thanks,Jim

Your right about the cost per wrap being the same. I know people that have used 1.5 wraps on alfalfa with no problems, and I've done grass with 2 wraps and corn stalks with 3 wraps, which is less than recommended. The pressure setting on my New Holland is at 2050 psi, which is near the upper limit, and I never had a bale explode. I suspect the sellers just want to sell more product, so they recommend more wraps. I've also used Tama before, and it worked OK, but Tama is made in Israel, where Pritchett is American made, and it weighs 15 pounds more then the same size roll of Tama.

How long will the wrap survive out in the sun? I've never had a bale outside for more than 8 or 9 months, so I honestly can't answer that.

Most netwrap will last several years longer outside than the hay contained by it.

IMHO quality of hay stored outside is dependent on how much rainfall one receives in that time period. Back during the TX drought I fed some netwrapped bales that had been stored outside that looked good inside that were over 2 yrs old.

I'm not so fond of Ambraco net that I wouldn't try some Pritchett brand especially if 2 wraps on grass hay will be enough. I just need to use up the pre-bought rolls I have 1st.
Thanks,Jim

Best pricing opportunities are usually at the end of the year when everyone is placing their wrap orders for the next season. Surface wrap bought and paid for by the end of December if you get on with someone doing a pre-season is soo much cheaper than buying it in June. Ex, here the ambraco preseason price from the dealer was $300/roll of 51x12,100' (plus the ambraco rebate of $25 for first roll and $5 for each additional if bought in dec 2014) In season they want $370/roll. Not saying these are good or bad prices but $75/roll difference works out to a lot of money. I would imagine the other big surface wrap folks have something similar. Good Luck
