Ok guys....I got the manuals for my 2210 that will be delivered tomorrow (took the day off to play). I am looking for the ballast required for a full load and not making any sense out of the manual. Will a ballast box full of sand handle it? Should I add fluid to the tires?

Thanks
Bob

If you bought your 2210 with the loader, you should already have gotten either fluid filled tires or the ballast box. That has been the case for most of the people here. Mine came with fluid filled tires.
I don't have the manual in front of me but I do recall that there is a chart in the loader manual that tells you how much ballast you should have for a given load of material (bucket size dependent)
I recall that mine requires something like 400#'s out back in addition to the the fluid in the tires for a full load of heavy dirt in a 53" bucket. I was thinking of buying a bunch of barbell weights from Wal-Mart ($10/25#s) and making a a support bar that will go on the 3 pt. lift arms.
Some people just hang another implement off the back for their ballast. I have a tiller that fits the weight requirement, but I'd rather have something more compact.

Ballast Box with sand works very well. I also use Box Blade and tiller. I like the Ballast because it is more compact.
No fluid in tires here. Didn't want the weight for cutting grass.

Mine came with the ballast box but I traded it back in for quick-tach weights. For my 2210 I have 2-50lb wheel weights on each rear wheel plus 6-42 pound quick-tach weights on my 3pt reciever hitch for a total of roughly 450 pounds. I'm about 150 shy of the full amount but find that 450 works good for everything I have used the loader for. I too shied away from filling the tires because I didn't want to pack the yard down.

If you have a boxblade on the back, I should think that plus the wheelweights would do the trick.

I have hooked up to the loader a couple of times just to move it, and without any weight on the back, the tractor gets really light, just with the weight of the FEL itself. Ballast is a must.

I don't know the specs for the 2210 but I've got a 4310
with 430 FEL. I have three 60 pound weights on each wheel,
I have the ballast box filled with sand, I have the ballast
box extension and I put six 70 pound weights on top
of the sand in the ballast box. I am glad I have all of that ballast when lifting a 20 inch red oak log 10 feet long.
Oh I forgot to add, I've got 240 pounds of me on the seat.
I agree.... the charts in the manuals are not very well
written.

As an alternate to sand, I fill my rear ballast box with solid concrete slabs. I think they are about 2 inches thick by 8" by 16". They come in different sizes and you can get them at any place that sells masonary block.

I used to use sand but found it less convenient to wrestle a fully loaded ballast box around. I hook up the box and throw in the weight I need. I also have several suit case weights I can hang off the back of the ballast box for extra weight. The weight has universal use. Suit case weight are used on the front to counter balance the bush hog or heavy landscape rake and I hang them off my back blade for more down pressure. The concrete slabs are put in the bed of my pickup truck (inside a secured wood frame) for winter weight.

This allows me to store the ballast box away in places where I could not back the tractor up to.

Guys, thanks for all the replys. I think I am going to pick up the 48" KK tiller from TSC today and use that for now.

I looked at the KK tiller. There sure is plenty of talk on here about tillers thats for sure.
I went with Bushhog brand. Was more but sure looked better, might even be made by the same people. I thought I was confused when looking for a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I wanted a good tiller to last a lifetime, looked good, local support and parts.
I looked at the frontier one that Deere had too. The bushhog had more tines and looked just as good.

Hambon, do you have a link to the bushhog sight. Guess I am not familiar with this brand.
