All those balloons that float up to the sky do not just disappear - they become litter. Shouldn't people be fined for releasing balloons into the air just like the people who throw trash on the highway?
That is nothing compared to all the beer cans, bottles and empty fast food litter that gets thrown in my ditch.
Our county road is about 7 miles long and I live near the end that connects to a major highway, so everyone tosses their alcoholic emptys in my ditch. I need a game cam, but they'd probably shoot it if they got photo ID'd.
Found one of toughs balloons on our property this winter in a small fir tree & all the needles were burn off around the balloon. I was happy it was not during a hot dry summer day.
You do live on a good road for littering with all that drinking and eating nearby.
TV cameras always show lots of balloons being released for different occasions - the groups or people can be identified. Does the news media realize they are filming a finable offense, or do they think the balloons end up in heaven.
Our farm used to be out in the country. Now there are new houses being built all around us.
One of the worst things I've ever done was to rebuilt the property line fences, tearing out a 5 to 15 foot wide barrier of trees and brush around the fence line. I didn't realize it at the time but those bushes and trees caught a lot of trash that blows away from new home construction sites. Now it all ends up on the farm. It really ticks me off.
While I see a few balloons each year they are nothing compared to the amount of construction trash I deal with.
Yes I do, but this is the topic I picked for tonight, thank you for reading, and replying your contribution to the topic is of value. You mention "kids" balloons, this is not limited to kids balloons, adults release balloons also - and that is just the start. . . .
So, do you think it is littering to release a balloon into the air? Do you have a litter problem? Do you keep your road clear of trash or let someone else do it? Do you have pride in the beauty of your land and roadways? Did you know what starts out as a grinche's problem cost our nation $11.5 billion annually?
This might not be a problem in Vermont, I don't know.
I just pick up the offending object
Then, Think of the source (good or bad) reflect on the conditions of so many in the world, and what happiness might be had.
I pick up a couple of balloons a week on my place. Also, housing and industry are beginning to surround me and trash from them is blowing in on an ever increasing basis. I carry a 5 gallon bucket in my RTV to put trash into. Big pain, thankfully it is easy to take RTV just about anywhere and easy to get in and out.
