Bandsaw Motor Question

   / Bandsaw Motor Question #11
It's been a long time since I've had the gear cover off of mine, but I recall a worm gear driving the drive roll. Reversing the motor would put the thrust load on the worm in the opposite direction. There may not be a thrust bearing to handle that loading.

Just a thought. I'd see about a different motor, one that runs the same as the original. Note: when they refer to a motor direction, as CW (or CCW), that usually (but not always!) means looking from the tail end of the motor, not looking at the shaft end!

Well, I did a test run with the saw running the opposite (from stock) direction, and it seems to work fine. Guess I'll try running it like this for awhile and see what happens....

Thanks again for the input.

Let us know how the saw works running backwards; especially cut quality and blade breakage.
