The banjo fitting (23mm?) on the high pressure hydraulic line to control valve under the seat leaks. drip.....................drip.....................drip. I took the banjo apart and cleaned the area and replaced the 2 copper sealing rings with ones from napa (3/4" oil seals I think the box said) and torqued to 54 ft-lbs per the service manual. Still leaks. Turned an extra 1/8 ... still leaks. I searched the forums/googled and saw that some recommend torquing 19mm banjos up to 65 ft-lbs to stop the leak.

I would prefer not to break the bolt off or strip the theads in the control valve.

Any ideas?

other than insuring all the mating surfaces are clean and smooth, the NAPA Copper Seals may be the incorrect size, or it could be the fitting has developed a hairline crack which would be hard to see without being vey clean and possibly a dye to help find it.

over torquing will not help, just make things worse.

Rhett gives good advice. Get the proper seals and check for cracks. If this doesn't solve it, your banjo bolt is most likely the same thread as BSPP. You could screw a BSPP fitting in there and have a new hose made to match the new fitting. End of the banjo problem forever. IMHO, banjo's should be left to country music, not equipment.

Hairline crack it is. Can't believe I didn't see it when I replaced the seals. Anyway, the fitting is at the hydraulic shop. I asked 2 shops about changing to bspp fitting with a new hose and they both looked at me like I was crazy. I will try and let the shop resweat the banjo and if that does not work, maybe Wayne County Hose can fix me up with hose and fittings. ;)

The copper gaskets should be 18M, I have them in stock if you need them.

He-heee. I love it when my competition makes me look good.:D
Here's what you do. Remove the banjo bolt and the steel line. Measure the threads per inch on the banjo bolt. I will bet that it matches up to the dimensions of a BSPP thread. Now go to a good hydraulic hose shop. Go to this site, Distributor Locator
Find a Weatherhead distributor. They tend to have more knowledgable people and a better stock. Take your banjo bolt, washers, and steel line there and tell them your issue. Here's what they should tell you as I have done this loads of times. You can screw in this Weatherhead part #. MB5515x?x?. The ? marks are the sizes. This is a 90 degree BSPP port by JIC fitting. They can then make a hose from JIC to the other end of your steel line. If you have any trouble at all, feel free to pm me and I will help you out.
Andy.
