I purchased a B2620 today. I'll take delivery later in the week. I asked for R4s and the dealer asked why. I explained I'll be doing quite a bit of tillage work preparing a 1 acre field for seeding with grass so my son can do some sports on it, so I need a tire that will grip in loose dirt. However, I also need something that is also easy on the lawn because eventually I'll probably also using it for mowing; not only the sports field, but also the nice lawn around the house.
The dealer then said that R4's are really only meant for pavement and hard ground, would not grip all that much better than turfs on soft dirt, and most importantly, would rip up my lawn. When I mentioned all the TBN users that are using R4s and mowing their lawn, he claimed that they all live east of the Mississippi, and what they call a lawn is actually not much more than a field that grows grass because it rains at least once a week (no rain out here in the summer time), so lawn damage is not really a concern.
He then showed me a Kubota tire that I believe he called a "bar turf". The rear has a bar pattern similar to an R1, but is much lower profile, and the tire is wider and less rounded than an R1. The front tire is basically a turf tire, I would presume so it doesn't rip up the yard when you turn. He said the rear bar turfs would not tear up the lawn like an R4, and would still grip well in loose dirt.
Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone else has experience with these "bar turfs". Also is anyone using R4s on what I guess you would call a manicured lawn (sodded and watered regularly).
thanks,
Chris
