I'm working up some barn plans. The attachments show a monitor style. The main section is 30 wide, 50 deep. Wings are 15 wide. Right now, I'm thinking sliders for doors--first attachment. On the wings, I'd have tracks sticking outside the barn at about 8 feet high. I'm worried about running into those with a tractor or something. I'm sure everyone's going to say go with overhead doors and I might do that; the second attachment shows overhead doors. Any comments? I want security and I'm on a tight budget. Thanks.

Can you put the winged doors on the inside so they slide behind the stationary wall.
They would have to be on the inside of the posts but it is still doable.
You will lose the wall space there too.

the wing on the left is an issue but drew one in on the right.

How about sticking a post in the ground just outside of where the sliding doors will stop. A couple of PT 6x6's would do the job and keep a country barn feel. Like a bank has near the ATM machine to keep cars from running into it. This would provide some protection and maybe even provide a way to secure the door into the open position with a bracket or length of chain etc. in case it gets windy and you don't want the door banging around

How wide are the doors on the wings they could have the rollers in 2-3 ft so if the door is 10ft 15 foot side you would only need to hang out past the wall 2-3 ft.

Second option is stack the the doors on a double track on the wings so each would be 5' one in front of another.

If you want security, go with overhead doors. Start wastch Craigs list for deals

You might consider a bi-fold door. I built some hanger doors that included a bi-fold section. The doors were 12H'x7'W. So when open it stuck out about 7 feet. The only problem is on windy days they act like a sail, but it is manageable. I made a locking device that locks the doors at the top and bottom.

Do overhead doors offer more security that sliders?
