I am putting up a small barn that will someday house a new tractor than my old Ford 3400 if I win the lotto. Don't get me wrong the old Ford has its place and does the job I need but I look at the utility tractors. I have not settled on brand but something along the lines of the John Deere 5085 or so (though I have glanced longingly at Orange and Red ones that size).

There is some question on door size and in the location I want it a 10 foot tall door by nine feet wide is the easiest to end up with. Is nine feet wide enough for these tractors? I went to the dimension specification on tractordata and was not able to find width and do not know the model #s of the other brands to search them. Height is not really an issue because I do not intend to own a cabbed tractor but I am curious about that as well.

Of course since I would have to win the lotto at this point to buy one (I don't use mine I lot I just like to play on it mostly) I could always build another barn later.

The dimensions listed in tractordata IIRC are mid to mid on the tires which means your choice of tractor and then tires is going to determine overall width. You also have to consider any wheel weights that might extend beyond the tire. That being said another TBNer, pclausen, mentioned in a May post for the front width on his JD 5085 "Outside edge to outside edge is 79" with those 13.6R24s". Also in trying to think about how much width clearance I would want, especially at the end of a long day and backing in or out, I think 2 ft on each side is reasonable. And that is clear of door jamb hardware. Hope you win the lotto!...Gary

Ten foot will be tall enough. It's nine foot to the top of the stack on my JD6415 and the stack is higher than the ROPS. I would want wider than nine foot. You might want to come in at an angle, or turn in with a loader on, rather than pull staight in. You may also need to back a wide implement in to repair, service, or just store. I'd go 12'-15'

I think you best go 10x10. 10' is high enough, but I'd like an extra 6" at least, preferably wider. I've got a 10x10 at the farm where I keep the 5410 (12 year old 5085M) and it fits fine, but I still have to pay attention and I definitely would not want it any smaller.
