I have a 2004 cub 5234DL. I love the tractor, it is a real work horse. I have noticed that the rear lifting arms are not even. It's as though one is bent downward, almost to the point that adjustment will not equal them out. Has anyone else noticed this.

I have 2180 and a 2185, the rear lifting arms to the mowing deck,On mine one arm is fixed the other is adjustable, is your 5000 series set up the same way? if yes what I did on my 2180 was replaced the fixed arm for a adjustable one in turn gave more cutting height.

Welcome barnmaker,

If you're talking about the three point hitch arms, they should be even. I think they are on a splined shaft so if they're not even it would either be a bent arm or they were installed a spline off?

I'll check my 5252 tomorrow.

I thought the same thing so I took the right arm off and moved one spline. It was then off as much in the other direction. The left arm is raised by hydralics and is fastened to the shaft which in turn raises the right arm. I'm thinking that the shaft is bent.

Barnmaker,
Here's the diagram from the Cub website, this is puzzling.
You'd think the arms would break before bending and I can't imagine the shaft causing the problem.

Looks like the arms are left and right, but they should be symmetrical.

Maybe it was always like this, shaft splines machined wrong and you never noticed?

Hope it works out for you.

Curt

I had this problem on my 6000 series too. It eventually wound up breaking the arm completely off one day, as I was backing the tractor up it fell, got lodged under the tractor and broke the 3 pt.

When they replaced it, I had the them realign it, and locktite everything. My personal experience with the cub is that everything comes loose and falls off. I would buy a big tube of locktite. Also, if the 5000 is like the 6000 it matters alot which way the pins are placed on the arms, as they will stick and possibly bend them.

Of course this is just one guys experience on one tractor, and may not be indicative of other models and other owners experiences.
