"Barrow, Alaska" to become "Utqiagvik, Alaska.."

Yeah, my relatives were chancing buffalo and documenting it cave painting in Europe a few years ago, we all have a connection with the past, why is theirs any different or special. I wonder how they would get along without snow machines and rifles, clearly not part of the history. HS

I've always said, at the beginning of the year, the native folks that want to hunt should make a choice.

Buy a hunting license and use all the modern equipment of their choise, obeying the hunting laws just like the white folks have to...

OR choose to go all native with no (as they call it) "white mans laws" ect... BUT have to do it the OLD native way. That means skin boats, no motors, no guns ect... for a no laws hunt.


I've seen many things the natives do... Shooting into herds of caribou with (mostly) 30-30's and mini 14/.223's off moving vehicles, to shooting ducks right off their nest in the spring and many many other things.

BTW, the caribou that fell, they hooked them behind a tracked machine to drag them. Every animal that was wounded, but moving away, no one even bothered to go after them, as they had something like 7 or 8 of them on the ground... How many of them ran off gut shot???

Over the years I lived in Alaska, I saw many things like this happen.

Right, there are a lot of things out of whack in how hunting and fishing between native and non native people gets handled. Every race everywhere is non native if you go back far enough.

Long ago but 'Hangtown' in California's goldrush region is now the more respectable 'Placerville'.


But 80 miles west of there 'Vacaville' (cow-ville in the original Spanish) is still Vacaville.

What is now North Bloomfield (Malakoff Diggins) was once known as Humbug. There are lots of interesting names for the old gold rush camps. Another local one is You Bet after the You Bet mine then there's Red Dog, Rough and Ready, etc.

Not our problem if natives didn't know they were in Barrow. They didn't have charts, maps or even a written language. Not surprised they didn't know where they were. Have a little respect for those that showed you were you were if your a so called native, and your welcome for heat, gun, and warm modern clothing foot ware and transportation, and medicine. HS

And now when they aspire to greatness in the modern world, what do they do? Casinos and Cigarettes. NICE!
