Got skipped over on the other thread, so I'll start fresh. Has anybody used any of these products made from Basalt/Volcanic rock?

Basalt Rebar reinforcement is an alternative to steel and fiberglass for reinforcing concrete

Made from volcanic rock basalt rebar is tough, stronger than steel and has a higher tensile strength.

Much lighter than steel, 89% percent in fact! One man can easily lift a 100 meter / 328 foot coil of 10 mm basalt rebar.

Basalt rebar is naturally resistant to alkali, rust and acids. Moisture penetration from concrete does not spall. Needs no special coating like fiberglass rods.

Basalt rebar has the same thermal coefficient expansion as concrete!

Allowing thinner, lighter panels and decks, basalt rebar reduces the thickness and spacing between the rods and the concrete and surface. Much more flexible design! Smaller rods allow for more critical spacing and designs.

Basalt rebar is easily cut to length with regular tools

This site shows a 100' coil of 8MM/3/8" weighing a mere 36 pounds:

Interesting, I have to wonder what the code compliance is.
And then the biggy $$$$$$

New to me...

Don't know, but 4 me the old standards of rebar and wire mesh worked OK so why change to something new that is unproved (and possibly costlier)A lot of new technologies while sounding good always seem to cost more.

Recently a friend was building a concrete ramp and the excavator recommended 8 " of re-enforced concrete for the slab.
Shucks a highway is not that thick.
IMHO 4" over wire mesh was adequate as long as it was the proper PSI concrete.
When it comes to a concrete pour just take it as it comes from the truck and don't let the operator sell U on adding extra water.
Sure, adding water lets him go home earlier but leaves U with a substandard product.

Far lighter weight and not susceptible to rust which causes spalling and concrete failure. I'm still not sure on costs, but I have some inquiries out.

Basalt rebar is a type of fiberglass reinforcement for concrete. Code allows fiberglass rebar, usually expensive.

Most concrete roads are thicker than 8” . Parking lots are usually 8” or thinner.
Few people use mesh in roadways these days because it is difficult to get it in correct location in the slab.

Today's modern designs are as follows:
Mainline Highway Pavement. 10 to 13 inches reinforced concrete pavement.
Side Rosd/ Frontage Road. 8 to 9 inches reinforced concrete pavement
Parking lots. 6 to 7 inches reinforced or non-reinforced concrete pavement
Sidewalks. 4 inches w or w/o mesh.
Airport Pavement. 18 to 20 inch jointed pavement.

I had never heard of it, either, but found this interesting description of the characteristics and manufacturing process here:
Basalt Fiber Rebar | Monolithic Dome Institute

I am interested in the characteristics of thin, fabric-reinforced concrete panels and complex shapes. When I say fabric, I mean like cloth or burlap, but using fibers like glass or basalt to make the fabric.
