Bat houses anyone?

I watched 3 dozen or so bats come out of mine last night. That's the most I've seen. I bought it about 8 years ago. The bats have come slowly. Several years with nothing, then a few and now we seem to have a colony going. Mine's in the middle of the barnyard. No trees within a hundred feet, there a stock tank with water nearby. I enjoy sitting out watching them in the evenings when it's getting dark.

I'd love to have 3 dozen bats around here.
Have you noticed any reduction in the number of flying bugs/mosquitoes around your place?

Possibly fewer gnats. I can't help but notice that they fly out of the house, circle a few times to get a bearing, then they fly off. So I'm guessing that other folks nearby are getting their insects reduced...

I hate mosquitios, but I am reluctant, I had one of the buggers come in one night. Didn't find it until the next evening.

I had one come inside the house once as well. I used a fuzzy blanket to toss up and catch him flying by and then took the blanket outside and shook him out of it. I decided that he came in because he was 'hunting' for bugs that were around the porch light near the doorway. I installed a yellow 'bug light' on the porch and no more bugs by the door and no more bats hunting bugs that were by the door/porch light.....
