What battery do you folks up north use? When we have cool mornings here in Texas my 6500 wont start. Replaced the battery last year with one with the same CCA's as the original because of the same problem. Once its started all is well until the next cool morning.

A year old battery should turn the engine just fine. What is the exact problem - engine won't turn over, engine turns but won't start. If you have insufficient battery power to turn the engine in cold wx then there may be something draining the battery or corroded/loose connections. Check the battery connections - on the battery, the ground on the frame and the lead on the starter.

Even at -20F my tractor starts easily after the glow plug has been on for about 10-15 seconds. Mine will automatically go to glow plug at any temp 32F or colder. If you have manual glow plug activation - don't bypass it by switching immediately to start.

Check your OP manual for cold start procedures.

I have a 6000 Mahindra, and had the same type issue...I found that (1)..let the intake heater go untill you hear the click and the voltage guage jumps up a volt or 2, and you probably need to put on a better "positive" cable from the battery to the solinoid...get the best heaviest cable you can, you need lots of amps in the cold...I put a new one on a month ago and it makes a big difference on colder mornings...I got a 1 guage, and would have gone with an "0" if they had it. Be prepared to pay $35 or so for the cable...its worth it. Let us know...BobG in VA

Thanks for the replies guys. On cold mornings the battery just doesn't have what it takes to spin fast enough to light off. during summer and after the initial start on cool days all works well. I'll try changing to a larger gauge cable and see what happens.

It doesnt get cold in Texas. Something is wrong. He says it turns too slow. Maybe go to a 5W-40 oil. :confused3:
