Ok, I looked at the JD web site for information on a battery for my 790, and can't seem to get one answer. In different places is shows different battery groups. 22F 22NF and 24. It appears they are all close in size, but I really don't want to risk getting one that doesn't fit.

What size battery do others use?
thanks

I have the 30hp 790 but I would expect the battery to be the same, or close enough, and my manual states "(Group 45) 500 Cold CrankingAmps @ -18*C" ... it's 12 volt ... hope this was of help.

Thanks for the reply.
Now for another dumb question.
Regarding the CCA, how close to I need to get?
The original was listed at 500.
Is 550 too much, or is 450 too little?

Bigger is better to a point. As long as the capacity of the battery is greater than the requirement of the starter, then life is good. Having 50 extra CCA's is fine if only 500 CCA is specified.

Thanks.
I'll be picking up a new battery this weekend.
