Had exactly the same problem with mine yesterday. Turned out to be the ground wire is bolted to the tractor frame. Connection was a little loose and corroded. Cleaned up the frame where it was bolted on, the wire terminal, was good to go. In your case, I'd clean the battery terminals first and then go from there. Good luck,
