Anyone have good long-term results with any anti-corrosion products for steel battery trays?

I have an electric side by side with 8 large lead-acid batteries. The batteries sit on a poly tray, but that in turn sits on a steel tray which is beginning to corrode in spots. I've pulled one of them out and angle grinder wire brushed it down to partially bare metal, partially solid original paint.

Bed-liner?

Undercoating?

"Flex-Seal" rubber stuff?

Powder coat?

POR-15?

I've ruled out commercially-applied bed-liner because the local guys want about $250+. Rattle cans would work good, at least to be able to economically apply. Abrasion should not be a problem since the batteries are pretty solidly tied down. I will use battery mats between them and the poly tray when I reinstall to hopefully help keep things cleaner, dryer, and tighter.

Roofing tar! comes in gallon buckets, "self renews" every time it gets warmed up.
The type with the fibers stays in place better.

ETA, batteries were once sealed with tar. Just pulling from years of experience.

I have had good luck with the spray-on flexible coating. Do a couple of layers. I think the name is Plasti-kote.

I've used spray on bed liner with good results. A couple coats and let it dry well before reinstalling the batteries.

All will work with the exception of powder coat. I like the roofing tar idea the best - also sold as roof patch in small cans. The real question is why are the batteries leaking and causing the issue? They should not be? One thing I do on my garden tractor is place some baking soda in the tray to pick up any spills. Messy but it works.

Never had an issue with any other battery. Do you coat your truck?

It's a new to me 2010 model Polaris Ranger EV. So I don't know much about its previous history. The batteries have been changed out recently and I've changed the charger profile for a slower, gentler charge which will hopefully prevent or at least minimize any future boiling. If any does occur, the new battery mats should help mitigate. I just REALLY don't want to have to "recondition" the trays again, at least for a LLLOOOOONNNGGG time.

I stumbled on this product researching gun cleaning fluids, bought a can and used it for the same issues you are describing, a year later it looks like it did stop further rusting. It is not a permanent coating but a light foam that sprays on like a lubricant, it stays wet for awhile but did not seem to attract too much dirt. Should have wire brushed and painted this year when I did the annual clean-up but ran out of time.

Name of the product is Corrosion X (Red Can)

CorrosionX
