BCS America has introduced an adjustable depth roller which fits behind their 30" tiller attachment. The perforated roller is the full width of the tiller and the depth adjusts from the tiller tines not touching the ground to the full depth available from the tiller. The roller assembly price is more than the price of the tiller attachment - probably a function of the roller being a low volume item compared to the number of tillers BCS manufactures.

People are going to complain about the price, but that looks great. Way less of an investment than buying a power harrow as well as the tiller. Great 80/20 solution.

at 1800 for the combo, I think I'd spend the extra 300 and get the power harrow. If this thing cost about 300-500 bucks it might make the combo an attractive half price alternative to the power harrow, but if it's just a few hundred more I'll take the harrow, there's no doubt the power harrow is better at what it does and less clunky/more integrated and more heavy duty as well from what I've read.

Cost comparison is different if you also need a tiller. Then the tiller and powerharrow is 1200 more than the tiller and depth roller.

they do similar things, with the power harrow not digging up weeds or disturbing soil layers/biological activity. Where the tiller has the harrow beat is price and it's better at working crop residue and fertilizers down into the root zone of newly planted crops. But if I had a harrow, I wouldn't buy a tiller. If I had a tiller (which I do) I might buy a harrow some day, but I can live without it for now. I'm a market gardener myself.

Looks like it would be easy enough to build one....hunk of metal pipe, couple bearings and some linkage, and I think I could turn one out in a day easy.
