Bear in my yard

We had a smallish black bear amble through the back just yesterday as well. Maybe 110#, and right at the 30 yard range marker I have set out for target practice. The critter stopped and sat down for a spell while I watched from the back deck. 'Guess there was an itch to scratch.

Regarding the bear coming for the corn, I suggest you have a little chat and let it know your intended guests. I mean how an a bear know who the corn is out there for? Food is food.

I'm glad the thread title wasn't "Bare in my Yard" with an accompanying picture :)

Lost a couple bird suet feeders to a bear or two. Wee hours of the morning and I didn't get to see him/her.

You beat me to it. I was actually hoping he had misspelled "Bear" and had a close-up picture. I was willing to take the 50/50 chance that it was Jane instead of Tarzan.

No bears in my neck of the woods. However, many years ago, I fed my dog outside. We were outside, late in the evening and the dog began barking. Over by the food dish, on the cabin porch, was some kind of furry critter. Though it was probably a raccoon or porcupine - advanced while shouting.

WOW & Holy sh*t - it was a badger. He stood up on his hind legs, smiled at me and let out a very loud HISSSSSS. I tore a patch right out of the lawn when I threw the old feet in reverse and got the He** out of there. Fortunately, the dog recognized my fear and retreated back to the house with me. By the time I recovered, got the shotgun and went back out, he had eaten all the dog food and vanished.

He immediately grew 5X in size when he stood up and hissed. And I remember how big & pearly white his teeth were too.

Come to think of it - we did have an experience with a black bear. Building our cabin in Alaska - had a Jeep with a Warn winch. The bear came around at night and would lick the grease/oil off the winch and wound up cable. Never saw him in the daytime. And he definitely had ears.
