Warning posted at Yosemite National Park:

Hunters and fishermen are noticed to be on the alert for bears while visiting the National Parks and Forests.

Visitors are advised to wear noise-producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert, but not startle the bears unexpectedly.

It is further advised to carry pepper spray in the event of an encounter.

It is a good idea to watch for signs of bear activity. Visitors should be trained to recognize the difference between Black Bear and Grizzly Bear droppings. Black Bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have bells in them and smell like pepper.
