I need to fix one of the shafts on my disc. The bearing on the arm that hold the shaft to the fram of my disc has come out. How hard is that to replace?

A picture would help, new or old disk, model of disk, etc.

I'm working on an old JD BW disk right now, and it is very hard. They tend to jam together very hard, diffuclt to pull the pieces off the shaft.

Also the end nut should be on very very very tight, it should be hard to get it to budge.

Sometimes it goes easy & trouble free tho, never know until you try. :)

A big wrench for the nut, a big (big!) pipewrench to hold a spool so the shaft doesn't turn, a hammer to maybe whack the nut to free the rust from it first, and give it a try.

What disc brand? Post photos so we can see what you're talking about.
The retention nut on a disc axle sometimes is a bear to remove. Recently I cut down a 13-ft wheel disc to 8-ft wide so I could handle it with my Mahindra 5525. I had to cut the axle nut with my 4-1/2" angle grinder to get that sucker off.

Once you get that nut off, the rest of the job is pretty easy.

Good luck.

Thanks Flusher!

I'll take some photo's so you can see what I'm talking about. The Axle nut was not a problem, Thank goodness! The axle is a one inch axle, I used a 1&11/16" wrench and I use a lubricant called MINK OIL. Awesome stuff. I used an old tooth brush to scrub the dirt from the threads to keep dirt from binding the threads on the nut.

I have replaced plates on the disc several times. the disc itself is only two years old. I'll get some photos and the brand.

I own a torch, so getting the nut off is easy - heat it up and it will go.

Some of the spools and bearings like to stick on the shaft - filled with clay particles - as hard or harder than the nut. Often they come off well, but - if you set your sifghts on 'difficult' then it's a nice day if it goes 'easy' instead. :)

I am sorry fellas, I have not had time to get a picture of my disc on here. I have found the parts I need to fix it, but have not had time to break it down. I have gotten the axle nut off (not problem) but like it was stated in a previous post, many of the spacers are difficult to move due to clay build up over time. I'll get them though.
