Beautiful, beautiful, East Texas

Traffic in Austin has become ridiculous. I35 turns into a parking lot even on weekends. You really have to plan around it.

I hear that, a LOT! Not to mention, I-35 is usually under construction! When I went down in January, I allowed 5 hours to make the 2:45 drive. I didn't need the extra time. Also, only took 3:00 to get home, and the extra 15 min was in Austin, but I wasn't straight shot to get back on the freeway to head home. I could certainly understand it becoming a mess, like Houston and Dallas.

The infrastructure is not keeping up with the growth. Once you hit Buda in the south up to Georgetown to the north, there is no telling what you are going to run into. If I'm going downtown during peak hours, take the back way via 183 to 7th Street or Cesar Chavez and avoid that mess, but 183/Airport Road can get plugged up now, too.

One of my good friends lived in Bryan/College Station for a couple of years. When he came back home he got a ride with one of his Texas friends. At that time I was living in our little house by the pond. It is a quarter mile off the road, but the three trail goes around the pond, so it is closer to half a mile. I asked the Texan how many trees there were where he lived. He said there were quite a few, but that he had seen more driving around my 'tank' than he saw in ten miles there. I took him to our Ten Mile Creek land. He sat in a lawn chair with his feet in the creek and didn't want to leave.

When we were going to Colorado a lot to see my sister, we drove over many rivers smaller than our creek.

San Saba has creeks like that. Honestly, Bryan/College Station is probably not very representative of the State's beauty, and offerings. I think all that is near there, is Texas A&M, and Easterwood Airport.

My friend said the town would blow up on Saturdays in the fall. The rest of the year it had a small town feel. He lived in the edge of Bryan, near a Mexican community. He always talked about the food more than anything else. He would tell me about dishes I had never heard of.

I lived there for 4 years. I think it has a big city/university town feel to it. I couldn't wait to get away from there!
