Beaver Three Wondering if it\'s worth it

I just went through hurricane Rita. I now have downed trees and trash to move around. I found a beaver three for fifteen hundred. It has a finish mower, and box blade. I seems to be in fairely good shape for its age. Is this about the right price for this tractor? The man says it does not burn or leak oil.

But, I have to ask, what is a 'Beaver Three' /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

What will it do about downed trees and trash, in the way of moving it around? Can't comprehend why it would be priced so low.

On the side of the tractor it says Beaver III. The guy said it was eighteen horses, but I don't know how he would know that. My thought was to cut the trees into small enough peices for the tractor to drag off into the woods around my house. The trash is sheet-metal from my neighbors barn, that I was going to drag back to his place.

Capp obviously knows it's one model of Mitsubishi tractor, and he's right, but I don't know anything more about them myself.

Thanks anyway Bird. I know it's a Satoh. I was interested in the tractor, and found this sight. You guys seem to know a lot about these little tractors, and it was a relief, since I had never heard of them. You almost make me want to buy one and fix it up, like someone would with a 65 mustang. So if I could find out if this is a good price[which it so for sounds like it is] I might do just that, and post a picture. I think it might become a pretty good, and hopefully not to expensive hobby. I really apprieciate the input.

I think $1500 is a very good price IF the tractor is in good condition. If I recall correctly, the Beaver III is the 3 cylinder version which is a lot smoother and quieter than the earlier 2 cyl models. I have an MT180H which is a similar size and it is a great little tractor.

I have a beaver III that I have run for over 12 years. Check the trans (all gears low and high ) put it in high range and open throttel touch the brakes (both at the same time) to see if the clutch slips. be make sure the pto works in all speeds. I have rebuilt the hudrolic cylinder and replaced the lift leaver position stop cleaned the hudrolic filter screen. That is not much repair for 12 years work. The tractor is very strong but is light. balast on front and in the rear tires is needed if you are going to pull much weitht. Be careful snaking logs as they will hang and cause the tractor to do a wheelie or back flip if it can get traction. Also the diff lock is great for pulling. Its a nice little machine and will sipprise you with what it can do.

Thats good advice Normmm. I'll be sure to check out the things you said before I make the deal. I have heard of the PTO running backwards on some of these tractors. Is there a chance that the Beaver III will have that problem?

The Beaver III is a geat little work horse.It is a US tractor not a grey market.It has a K3A three cylinder engine. The PTO turns clockwise. We carry manuals and parts for this tractor.
