Had our bed mounted, steel fuel tank we use to supply the mowers rust out. Not sure yet if it was from inside out, or outside in, but either way, need a new one.

Thinking of going aluminum to keep the fuel cleaner.

Really like the aluminum ones with the built in toolbox right until I saw the prices. I saw a used one a couple months ago and passed on it because he wanted $350 for it and I did not realize I needed it at the time. Now I am kicking myself in the booty about that.

Yes, I haul gas in it, no, none of the tanks are rated for that. But when it is all said and done, I feel safer with a mounted tank then with 4, 5 gallon cans of fuel sloshing about in the back of the truck.

Anyone have some thoughts, or seen some particularly good ones?

A bottom drain will be needed on the next one.

I've got an RDS 60 gal bed mounted tank/toolbox that I like. Like you I got sticker shock when I started looking. I don't use mine as a transfer, only as a gravity feed to my main tank. I think price was $750 installed.

How about something like this.

Ballard Inc. - EZ Fill

Wow, had not seen that one. I think that would be sweet, and put it on the trailer would be high speed. As usual, SWMBO and I see it differently, she does not want anything on the trailer. I bet if I talk her into it though, after she has it for a day or two, she will ask why we did not do it that way sooner.

Off today to see what is available locally as well.

Looks like that would be great to mount on a pallet and then set up on a rack in the garage for filling the tractor too. When you need to refill, just grab with the pallet forks and set in the back of the truck.

I did this whole set up for around $1000 and that includes the 8x10 building it's in .

This one is self unloading.
Meaning no need of pallets forks or tractor.

LB, I know you're pretty proud of that system, but me thinks he wants something a bit more portable.....:confused2:

Well, lost this round to SWMBO and price. Always a fine line to dance when I am not the one doing the work.

Anyway, for $180 went with a new square steel tank from Rural King.

Think I will elevate it two inches on some steel blocks to make it easier to wash under and try and figure out some way to fog it occassionally to minimize internal rust.

Thought about welding up an Aluminum tank myself, then got the price of the sheet of Aluminum I wanted ($500) and that plan came to a screeching halt.

Thanks for the input guys.

Just keep the tank full and you will not have any issues. 99% of the problems I see with boats fuel systems is due to people leaving the tank 1/3 full. Condensation and rust will do lots of harm.
