I cannnot help you with the price but any questions about operating and perfomance are easy.

Any price paid for a used flailmower in good condition is really a good price though and I would not want to see it slip away from you.;)

If you are doing housekeeping in blackberry rows it will be fine just as it would be in removing them.

The slower you travel in forward and reverse for the initial pass for heavy brush the better as the finer it will shred the brush with zero issues.

Its better to reverse over heavy brush stands and avoid having a stick in a cooling fan or radiator as the creeper gear in reverse will assure the stubble is very very short.

Just be sure to have the replacement knives on hand and grease the rotor bearings regularly with no more than 6 or 7 pumps of grease "per day of use" as the bearings have seals in them to maintain the clean grease in them.

IF you have a lot of berry canes stuck on the rotor or rubbing against the bearing housings unhook the mower and put ity on its back to remove them as the canes will act as a heat generator and the grease will not be as effective in lubrication.

The slicer knives are cheap and they must be replaced if broken or the rotor will be out of balance.

A WEN wet well knife grinder is the best way to sharpen slicer knives too.

So he wants sixty percent of the new retail price; its strictly an issue of your wallet and whether you want to part with it(parts and knives are not an issue at all so take that into account.

Any flailmower in good condition will cost you less to repair if it neeeds knives and belts for the first season.

All the Ag. machinery and flail mowers have to pass certain construction and safety standards so no worrys there.

The Befco flail mower will be fine for all kinds of mowing.

$1800 sounds reasonable to me, depending on the condition. there was one listed on AgDealer.com for $2700 CDN last summer. I always keep an eye out flails and Good used units like that are few and far between. That being said lots of TBNers rave about an Italian unit that sells for less than that. I can't remember the name but look up the "Let's talk Flail mower" thread and you'll find it.
