Hi, I have a 1520NH, and was backing up in some thick brush, and failed to see a stump sticking up that caught my steering ram and bent it nicely! Well I was able to bend it back with a bar, but now it leaks fluid pretty badly. Priced one at NH, and that scared me, so now I'm going to remove it and get it rebuilt. My question is, when I remove the hydrualic hoses, do I need to worry about bleeding them upon reassembly? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone else ever bent one of these? They are quite vulnerable!! Thanks!! Kerry

No, don't need to worry about bleeding the hoses. The 'air' will purge itself out of the cylinder when used.
Sorry to hear about the problem. Hope to avoid the same, but things like that happen when we use these toys.

kbm3,
Beenthere is correct about this as I just replaced a hydraulic hose last weekend. After reading several posts in different threads, I was really sweating it...wether or not I could get the loader and 3pt going easily again.

I was doing some backhoe and loader work off road on an incline. When finished, I could not take the same path up an embankment which I went down because it high centered my rig and was very steep and muddy. There were Oak trees all around so manuevering was difficut at best. I decided to drive towards another area that was less steep to get back on my road.

In doing so, I ran over a log that had a branch/knot sticking up which grabbed the main hydraulic hose feeding th FEL and tore it up. I immediately lost power to the FEL and could not steer the tractor anymore. I had to leave it in the woods on this wet slope. Before I removed the hose in the field, I measured for a new path to route the hydraulic hose so it would not be exposed as before.

I came back the next weekend to install the new hose and a 5 gallon bucket of AW-32. Attached it and started the tractor. Everything worked right away and I was able to drive it out of there. Later at camp, I added more fluid to top of the reservoir.

Just bent the power steering cylinder shaft on my 1715. NH wants $474 for a new one. Being the good dealer that they are, referred me to a local machine shop that can straighten it for me. That and a new seal kit should have me back in good shape again - Lewis

If a bleed is necessary, it isn't difficult. When I rebuilt the power steering on my old Massey and had problems with it not working after the rebuild all I had to do was loosen the supply line and start the tractor, let it bleed out the air for a minute or two and tighten up the fitting, That solved the problem.
