We are finding that living in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom with lots of dirt roads is hard on tires. I am faced with having to replace my Cooper Discoverer A/T M&S 265/70R16 tires after 24,129 miles due to stress cracks. I am not pleased with their durability. I am aware they may be covered under a proration warranty.

I would appreciate tire recommendations.

I suspect that your problem might be the tire pressures. The Toyota recommended tire pressures are for P-metric tires and will cause problems with load range C or E tires. I have had a set of Discoverer AT's and a set of Discoverer AT3's on my Tundra. Both have lasted over 50k miles running them at 50 psi.

WOW! 50 PSI! The tire pressure on the door recommends 29 PSI on the front and 32 PSI on the rear.

I use Toyo tires - get them at the local Les Schwab dealer.

YEP!! And that's where the problem is!!
On a Taco something more like 40 psi might be better because the truck weighs less, but the factory pressures are way too low.

I have been very happy with ALL the different Michelins of different designs we have had through many years. Our latest are the Premier A/S (on Subaru Forester). Great in mud and snow and tough enough to not have any problem with our 1/2 mi gravel road. We literally drove directly from the dealership to the tire shop when we bought it to get rid of the horrible Geolanders that came on it.
