I'm in the process of getting my first tractor, a 2210 with FEL and 62C MMM, hopefully tomorrow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had originally planned on a 647 tiller too, but the dealer will have to order it (which will take a few weeks). As I partly wanted the tiller to use as 3PH weight for the FEL this weekend, I'm now looking for a box blade (which I was going to buy anyway, as I have a lot of leveling and landscaping to do on three different lots). I'll just buy the box blade now and wait on the tiller until this fall (it doesn't hurt that I'll probably find a cheaper one down the road...).

The dealer is trying to sell me a 60" box blade. However, it seems to me that 60" BB might be just a little large for the 2210.

I was hoping those here with more experience could give me a little guidance on this issue.

Thanks.

Ed.

I just got my 2210 a few weeks ago and I purchased the Frontier BB1048. This model BB has an approximate weight of 428lbs and is I-Match compatible. My JD dealer does not recommend a larger BB for the 2210.

Really appreciate the info, Chuck.

The box blade the dealer is pushing me towards is a good bit larger than yours. I may have just fallen off the turnip truck in the tractor arena, but I'm not stupid either. Putting that BB on my tractor would be sort of like putting a battleship anchor on a canoe! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Really, though, I suspect that this is the first 2210 that my dealer has sold, and that the sales person has just not taken time to familarize himself with the model. They probably haven't even had it very long, considering the other 7 dealerships I called didn't have one (and one or two didn't even know what the 2210 was....).

BTW, do you have the I-Match hitch? I was thinking about getting one, but wasn't sure that it would be worth the asking price.

A 60" box blade is too wide to be practical for the 2210. I scrape, dig and drag very efficiently with a 48" United/Leinbach that covers my rear wheel tracks and offers the weight and durability expected of a sub compact with a box blade. There are a few other brands that will meet and exceed your needs, but I do not believe your soon-to-be-delivered tractor will handle a 60" box blade for more than the easiest chores. Bottom line: 48"-- or 54" if you can find one.

Hi

Welcome to the 2210 club, I'm sure you will enjoy it, I seem to find some use for it everyday. It seems the 48 is the right size, I think the 60 would be pushing it. As long as you have no implements yet get the Imatch and then make sure anything you buy is Imatch compatable. I tried the Speeco quick hitch and it was nothing but problems, had to keep switching the top hook and their top link around to make it work. The Imatch and Imatch implements work great, just back up and pick em up.

Follow your instincts, get a 48 inch. J

Ed, Congrats on the new tractor. Another thing to consider is the ground, and how much you'll be dragging around. If you want the box to rip hard clay, a bigger box will grab too much ground and the tractor tires will spin. Similar problem if you try moving too much earth in the box. But soft loam won't give you as much problems. Best of luck

I do have the I-Match hitch and love it. I did get the M96 Herd spreader which is not I-Match compatible, but everything else I plan on getting will be I-Match compatible. I have a 48" plug aerator coming and that's I-Match compatible.

EJohnson,

I would tend to agree with those that recommend a 48" (or possibly a 54" one, if you can find one) for your 2210. If you have hard, rocky soil I'd stay with the 48".

One other thing to think about: You said one of its uses will be for ballast when using the loader. The 48" might be better as it will allow better maneuverability in close quarters. A wider boxblade might prevent you from getting into certan areas or you might be more likely to bump into something with it. When using the loader, our attention is usually focused up front with what the loader is doing. It's easy to forget that you have an implement in the back, and the wider it is, the more likely it'll hit something.

THe general rule is to get the blade that will just cover your tracks with the rear wheels set to their max. width.
