I've used winches, in serious situations, since 1967. They have always been Warn winches. I would suggest rather than a dash mounted switch - get a toggle switch on a 20 foot extension cord. This way you can - if two people are there - be outside the vehicle controlling the winch and watching how the cable is spooling up. Second person is in the vehicle driving. Only one person - bring the control toggle switch inside the vehicle, thru an open window, so you can control the vehicle & winch at the same time.

Yep. I take the time to hard wire a momentary 3 position toggle switch inside so I can winch and drive without dealing with the cord switch. I only use it when winching objects that I want to observe outside the vehicle.

I've had Warn, Ramsey, Superwinch and Milemarker. I prefer Warn.
