Anyone have any good sources for discounts on JD parts. My local dealer does them at full list, and I know I should be able to do better than that.

Any of you have a good local dealer who's willing to work with you?

My John Deere dealer in Utah offers up to a 20% discount on parts if I order them directly on the Internet from www.JDParts.com. I had to register at the website and select them (Greenline Equipment) as the store. The order is mailed directly to me from John Deere. The parts are non returnable under this offer so I have to be sure of what I order. Also, parts cannot be ordered or picked up at the dealer as this is only a Internet offer by the dealer. Probably saves labor and stocking fees for them and it sure works great for me. I ordered parts on a Thursday and the whole order was delivered by the next Tuesday and I did save 20% over getting it from the dealer. One more thing, I have to pay the shipping charges, but then again I pay them if ordering through the dealer. In my case, it also saves about a 100 mile round trip to pick up the parts. That might even equate to 200 miles if I have to make a trip to order and another to pickup.

Happy New Year! Maybe we can start out the New Year by saving a bit of money on repairs/parts! Yup, I've logged onto the JDParts website and checked the prices, etc., too. But, the prices quoted on the site are more or less identical to what my local dealer has quoted me in the past. So... I guess that I'm a bit confused how you got a 20% discount through your local dealer through the internet?!? My dealer has offered to split the shipping costs for parts but his price is spot on with the website price. It's probably simple; and that's why I can't figure it out....! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Thanks for any additional info.

My local dealer sometimes gives me a discount on bigger parts, but not smaller ones. However, I never pay shipping, no matter what the part is, even big special parts. This is standard practice around here. The dealer includes my special parts orders with his stocking orders that he receives twice a week, thus he doesn't get hit with a shipping charge & I don't either. However, since I live in the Midwest, (Indiana)my local dealer does a huge parts business. Those of you in remote areas may not have that luxury. It would be worth it for you to inquire how often your dealer gets his stocking orders, and the next time you order parts ask if you can have your parts included in his stocking order to save shipping.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a "do-it-yourselfer" whenever possible. So, I'm naturally inclined to have at least 2 of each filter, fuses, fanbelts, etc. on the shelf in the garage for my vehicles and tractor. I usually try to buy parts in $100 increments so I'm not always down there at the dealer "nickle and dime in". The last time I went in I needed to replace the left verticle arm on the 3pt. - $90. (Short story -- don't drive in a narrow ditch with a 7' backblade). So, I lumped in some filters, coolant stablilizer, extra gallon of Hy-Gard, etc. Parts guy says they've got a scheduled parts shipment coming and I can get by on no shipping costs. Great. I come back in when the parts arrive and the parts guy (different guy) tells me it's $15 for shipping. I explain the situation and he says "well, how do you feel about splitting the cost -- how, about $5 bucks?" What are you gonna say/do? I gave them the $5 bucks. They need to make money to stay in business and I do appreciate having a local dealer. The mechanics are very helpful and suffer my questions with a smile. But, the niggling for shipping (and I've never even tried to get a discount...) chapped my butt! So, when I hear about the possibility for a 20% discount and the parts are shipped to me and not the dealer -- well, I take note of the that! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Thanks again.
