Hello, We have a zero-turn radius mower bought new,a John Deere 737 Ztrak. The OEM oil is JD 15W40 or SAE 15W40 and the filter is AM131054. The price on this filter quoted at $17.99. I want to make sure I have no trouble with this machine. Any recommendation you can make I appreciate. I can get a WIX cross-ref 57103 for $8.50 at local auto parts store and their Co. brand of SAE 15W40 for about $14 a gallon. Any better ideas? Thank you for your input!

How often will you be changing your oil? Why not support your local dealer? At least buy the filters from them.

Not at all unusual for ZTR hydrostatic units. Very, very common, in fact.

The problem with support the dealers around here is that they dont support you. Gouge you on price of the equipment, ( as compared to other dealers) and really rip you off on parts, (again compareing to other dealers). Air filter $80 at dealer and $20 at parts store for same brand. I rest my case. I have no feelings of needing to support my local dealer, especially when I am the one putting out the cash.
Amsoil synthethic works great in hydrostatic systems, and you can use dextron3 transmission fluid. Stick to manufactors specs and use the brand of oil that meets those specs and matches your pocket book. Filters are usually 10micron, but I have seen 20micron on some systems. I cant say for sure, but Wix makes filters for a lot of companies and all wix filters are made to manufactors specs, so you should see no issues subsituting wix for the JD brand.
