I can' find a source for a backhoe tooth that was used by Deere and others back in the 80's. It's a replaceable wear tip that slips over a permanent stub on the bucket. It looks like a Deere T2A tooth but is half the size.

What I'm looking for is the name of a Deere mailorder parts vendor with a huge inventory in-house, since this is such an obscure part. Looking for dealers online I can't tell the real stocking dealers from the places that just backorder.

ARPS who built my 'Kubota' backhoe and also some of Deere's backhoes, told me this backhoe tooth has the following names:

Deere's part # PT8163 (Researching that, it seems this tooth was used on Deere's Model 7 backhoe in the past)

H&L Tooth Company's "O", later renamed "OSP" (the actual tooth manufacturer)

Arps/Amerequip part number 013623 (or 13623 when they first used these)

Kubota #7793037 in 1979 Owner's Manual for Kubota K650 backhoe; this backhoe was also sold as Yanmar YBH600.

Amazon shows the Deere number direct from Deere but with the note Out Of Stock and will not restock. Aside from that nothing found on Amazon or Ebay.

Thanks in advance for any advice on a good mailorder Deere parts dealer. Or other advice how to find this old-stock part.

PT8163 appears to be no longer furnished from Deere, but there are several dealers that still show it in stock. Since you are on the west coast, try RDO Equipment. They show stock in Riverside, CA location 951-682-5353 or Hermiston, OR location 541-567-8327. Or if you have a favorite local dealer they should be able to transfer some in from any dealer that still has them in stock.

Thank you Beenthere.

I went ahead and ordered from them, greenfarmparts.com, after reading their website. Claimed to be the biggest Deere mailorder parts vendor in the world, half million parts in stock, Deere dealer for 60 years etc. And claimed to have this obsolete part in stock for same day free shipping.

I'm hoping this avoids the delay of dealing with a smaller vendor who likely would backorder from these guys (or from another broad-stock Deere dealer).

And thanks to jd110. I appreciate the trouble you took to locate this.

Can you guys share with me the magic you applied to find the part, and even the stock levels, when Google search can't see it?

To get the part #, go to jdparts.com (free registration) and put in model no. and follow the pop-ups.

Once with part #, I just google " JD PT8136 " and one of the hits was greenfarmparts

Greenfarmparts.com's website says its the largest JD mailorder source in the world etc etc. It showed this part in stock. So I ordered one.

Next day greenfarmparts cancelled my order, refunded my Visa, advised me the same thing I had seen on Amazon the instant I looked there: "The PT8163 tooth that you ordered is no longer available from John Deere."

They advised what jd110 had said in this thread (thanks jd110!), that RDO in Southern California shows these in stock. So I ordered from RDO. Parts guy there said he had the last four in the whole world (probably looking in the JD database) and they were sitting on his desk as a customer return. We got as far as giving my address; then he said he couldn't sell to Northern California. Said call their Sacramento branch and they could backorder from him. Ok, whatever.

Sacramento guy said call the local Deere dealer. No! We're going in circles! :hissyfit: Your Riverside parts guy has the last four in the whole world right on his desk! Ok, took my order. I bought all four at double the price of the common, larger, Deere T2A tooth. Arrived today! :)

Thanks everyone for helping with this.

The part #s listed in posts above and over in my earlier thread might help someone find this part in the future.

Also Arps/Amerequip sent me the drawing below, said they last used the part 15+ years ago, and said their distributor might still have some:

Thanks for posting this. It's good to see that H&L has started selling direct.

I had sent H&L an email as part of my search. I got a prompt reply but at the time - 2015 - they said their sales were in bulk through distributors.

That replacement tooth was easy to install. I crimped the dimple then added a small tack weld so it couldn't get lost again. The remaining teeth could be wiggled so I tacked them too. The backhoe is back in service. It works well. You wouldn't know its 40 years old now.
In use, recent photo

Again, thanks!

I used Greeparts with total satisfaction. Is that different from greenfarmparts?

yes

greenfarmparts.com is Reynolds Farm Equipment in Fishers, IN
greenpartstore.com is AHW in Watseka, IL

I've had good experiences with both. Just depends who comes out to the best price with shipping, coupons, etc...
