The best mower I ever had was a LawnBoy that I bought used in 1971. I gave it to a relative when I sold the house to become a full time RVer in 1989 and it still ran like new at that time. But that was back when LawnBoy was owned by OMC (Outboard Marine Corporation) and was a 2-stroke engine. If I remember right (wouldn't necessarily bet on it) the new LawnBoy at that time retailed for about $250 and the one I bought was supposedly one or two years old so I gave half that for it. It took very little effort to pull the starter rope, so even my wife and teenage daughters could use it, and it was a self-propelled bagger.
Now I have a Toro that cost $700 ($755 with tax), 3-in-one, personal pace, electric start, etc. top of the line walk behind. I really like it, but since it just turned one year old last month, it remains to be seen how long it'll last.
