Hello -

I'm new to the forum, and recently bought a handful of flex 71 units to put together some food plot planters. I'm looking for help with the following:

1. Two of my 6 units have hoppers with the small seed hopper conversion. Does anybody have any experience with these, how they work, etc. Right now they are set up for corn, but what were they made for? I'd like to be able to plant radishes, turnips, etc. with them if possible

2. I'm going to set up a few of the units for no-till, and so I'm in need of ideas on openers and a source of replacement press wheels with the raised rib for closing no-till furrows. Where can I get new rubber?

3. I'm short a few adjustment gears - any ideas on where to find replacement gears without going to the dealer?

4. Can I interchange the steel hoppers with newer fiberglass or plastic hoppers?

5. Are the closing knives necessary?

Lots of questions, I know, but thanks in advance for all your help!

YOu can get seed plates for small vegetable seeds (tomato, lettuce, celery, beet) that probably would work with radishes, turnips, etc.

Lincoln Ag Products has plates for the 71

I picked up two mod 71 units myself. I went to the local John Deere dealer and they were able to order parts. I checked on replacing a press wheel and they are 110.00 each. My two are in good shape tread wise but the center of wheel is inverted. I am going to take it off rim and see if I can push it out some. Seed plated can be pirchased off lincoln ag but they are specific to the seed size and shape. Like corn some seed is flat somemore rounded, some bigger some smaller. As for parts Yetter bought the mfg rights from JD and the parts are interchangeable.
