Gordon, The Amsoil filters, filter to a much smaller micron. In return you can have cleaner oil and extended drain intervals. Now you can use any other filter but you will have to change the filter twice to the Amsoil filters once. I sometimes if I do not have an Amsoil filter on hand just put a regular filter on but change it on an engine at 6,000 miles and add 1 qt of Amsoil where on Amsoil filter I run 12,000 miles on the filter. You can run the Amsoil 25,000 miles in automobile applications but that is a (use your own judgement thing), because it depends on if all the miles are stop and go, winter or summer, or all highway miles. or a lot of idling time. i have a special tester (electronic) put a drop of oil on it and it tells you how much moisture, condensation or anti-freeze, dirt contamination, metal contamination, or how much % of usefull life the oil has left in it. I have tested Amsoil after 20,000 miles of highway and have had it show 20% of is usefull life used up meaning 80% to go. Handy little tool if you have a large number of engines and gearboxes using the products. gary
