I am looking to buy a new tiller for my Kubota 3010 Hst. It has R4 tires and 4wd. I would like the tiller to be wide enough to till out tires tracks. my local dealer has a last year model bush hog brand tiller 62 inches for $1200 and the 58 inch 1st
Chocie for $1300, which one should i buy. The paint on bushhog is a little faded. I do not want to spend over $1300
Thanks, for all comments.......Russell

Sounds like a bargain to me. I had to pay $1,300 for a 40" Bush Hog tiller in 1995. I have a cousin who has the 62" Bush Hog tiller now. I don't know anything about the First Choice except for the good reports on this forum, so I think they're both probably good tillers. My choice would be the Bush Hog both because I'm familiar with them, used one hard, and it held up with never a repair, and because it's wider than the First Choice.

barney5,
The Bush Hog is made by Maletti and the First Choice is made by Sicma. They both are chain drive tillers. THe CCM Gear Drive tiller MR160- 58" with PTO & Clutch is $995. Remember Gear Drive Tillers have no chains to strech or to adjust.

I have a First Choice RT1066 and it is perfect for my L3010. I do not know anything about the Brush Hog, but First Choice is great.

I only addressed First Choice-if you are on the eastern half of the USA-for sure you should contact Mark at CCI!

Mark, would you please give us the skinny on using these tillers with lower PTO HP. I have 15.5 PTO HP on my CK20HST. Does CCM make a gear drive tiller that I can use? I've read gear drive requires higher HPs than chain drive. True? I love the looks of the CCM and believe it would be a good choice if I can use say a 48" to 52" or so. Your information is appreciated. Thanks, John

Gear Drive Tillers actually are more efficient in the transfer of power and take less HP than chain drive tillers. The smallest CCM tiller has a 60 HP transmission. You will see other MFG's use gear drive tillers in their larger scroll diameter and commercial tillers that dig deeper into the soil so the increased depth alone will demand more PTO HP. A CCM MR tiller has a 17" scroll and is a commercial grade tiller. Most standard tillers have a 15-18" scroll. Take for instance, the First Choice RT04 chain driven tiller. It has a 15" scroll diameter and a 35 HP transmission. This is probable one of the best chain drive tillers out there for CUT's. But with the CCM MR series, you can dig deeper with a heavier transmission and a heavier tiller tine with the same or less HP than the FC RT04 tiller. The big reason you see so many chain drive tillers in the USA is price. The average CUT owner will use a tiller less than 10 hours a year. We have landscapers and tree nurseries using our MR tillers 200-500 hours a year. The capacity is there with a CCM tiller.

Mark, I was hoping you would tell me which CCM to get for my CK20. Now that you have established it takes less HP to use, which one do I need? Thanks, John
