best trailer, tow vehicle

I have a B6100 with MMM and a planned front snowblower (I have it, just gotta make it fit) that I tow on a 11' flat deck with my 1991 diesel Sonoma. The motor had a rated 58hp when new 500,000kms ago. Though highways are not a good idea, secondary highways are fine and the truck handles the weight just great (about 1400 lbs + trailer). Point is, if you're not in a hurry, lots of power isn't needed.

I don't have the pointers to the previous threads about this subject. But, this topic has been covered before on TBN and I believe the "right" answer that came up was: It isn't the overall length of the trailer that matters it is the ability to get the hitch weight up to 10+% of the gross weight.

A lot of tractors would fit on 14' or 16' trailers but were to far back and didn't put enough weight on the hitch, a 16' or 18' trailer worked in those cases. With your bigger tractor you might need a trailer longer than 18' to get far enough forward to put enough weight on the hitch.

Install electric brakes on your truck and get trailer brakes on both of the trailer axles! Use four tie down points on the tractor.

Yep, Jim, it was a bit warmer last month, but still cooler than normal for us even then. And on Freeport Parkway you were only about a mile from my house.
