I've got a JD 3120. I'm in the process of changing the Hydro/transmission fluid. I need to remove the cap of the filter to replace the filter. My 155lbs can't get the cap off. The cap is about 5" in dia. My biggest oil filter wrench won't fit. I'm guessing I need a strap wrench. I've heard of guys keeping an old belt around for such but I don't have one. So, what's the best way to remove the cap?

I've got one of those filter wrenches that looks like a big pair of water pump pliars, only the jaws are curved and have teeth. They work on most all filters I have. Similarly, I have just used a really BIG pair of water pump pliars, the kind you can get fairly cheap at Harbor Freight.

I also have a home-made strap wrench my Dad made out of a piece of steel bar that uses a strip of sheet metal for the "strap". That one has saved me more than once, although it was specifically made for smaller than normal filters, it could be made in any size.

In my worst-case scenario, I have punched a big screwdriver all the way through the filter, laterally, and used the screwdriver as a handle to turn the filter.

If you are talking about a plain old screw on filter, drive a long screwdriver through it and use the screwdriver as a T handle.
First, buy a strap wrench:D
