Best way to smooth a lawn

He's very good. He smoothed out a section where a chicken coop was last year, I just threw some grass seed over it, picked out the big rocks, and started mowing. It's too rough to have a whole yard though, you still have to watch where you go and take your time in that section.

I want to be able to fly in the mower, that's why I want it right. I hate spending half of the day cutting grass, I'd rather spend some time getting everything smooth than have to go slow every time for the rest of my life.

Did you look at the pics I posted in the other thread on page 3?

I saw the ones where you said you used a box blade then a landscape rake, you did an amazing job on that.

I'm not seeing the thread that I think you are talking about though.

I have been watching some youtube videos of the land plane, this thing does seem to do a good job also. It's too bad TSC doesn't have one, that green paint is expensive.

I was referring to this link post 26. gives you a better idea of what can be done with a landplane or grader scraper depending on which term you use.

Alright, you convinced me. Thanks.

Think my 2720 will handle a small one? It would be cheaper to buy a 4' for that compared to a 7' for the big tractor. It would take longer for sure, but that's not a big deal. If I teach the girlfriend how to run it she'll do it for me, she has fun driving the little tractor. She's afraid of the big one though, too many shift knobs and levers to worry about.

I think a small one will work with the 2720 but my suggestion would be for the larger one. My 8' heavy duty one cost about $900 to build including the grader blades and all materials. You would find this useful on the farm too and I suspect having the larger model would be more beneficial to you for the longhaul.

I am fixing to build a small landplane for my x749 and will have a better idea of how effective the smaller ones can be shortly thereafter.

Sounds good to me. I'll probably just copy your design, it doesn't look too hard to build. The bigger tractor does pull a lot better anyways. The 2720 does good for what it is but I haven't given it any hard jobs yet.

Thanks a lot.
