Betstco Flail mower EF155 60 inch gearbox failed

I bought a New 2022 Betstco Flail mower EF155 and within the 1st 1.5 acres the gearbox went kaput.

I greased everything and peeked at the oil level before starting it up.

Then I noticed it was blowing oil out of the breather holes on the filler plug. I stopped for a moment to try to assess the situation, started going again and then within 100yds the flail drum wasn't turning at all.

The oil sprayed out of the filler plug vent holes all over the mower. Where it pooled, I could see it was was full of metalflakes

Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

Gearbox was rated 45hp, and I'm running 27hp. Not sure what the PTO Hp is, but has to be less than 27.
This mower was a new-old-stock from 2022, never used.
This was the first use.

Hard to pin that on anything but a manufacturing defect.

prepaid shipping for returning it to them AT NO COST TO YOU!!!!!


If they balk at that request, tell them they will be
hearing from the attorney generals office in Olympia.

I have driven by the Betstco yard many times. They have lot's of inventory. I have not done business with them, but I have heard they are good about taking care of their customers. I hope you have the same experience.

I like to refurbish 3 point mowers for something to do in the winter
Occasionally, I aquire a Betstco mower that needs some tlc.
I have found them to be very responsive, with a pretty good parts inventory.

Haven’t dealt with them for the last 3 or 4 years though.

Warranty is only 90 days on Betstco stuff, but they always have parts.

The OP needs parts for sure. Probably a gearbox.

I bought it from a guy who buys New Old Stock. It's a 2022. He says he'll take care of me but he wants to talk it over with his partner. He said the only thing he can think of is that the gearbox was dry. But the whole mower is covered with oil that blew out of the breather. I'm pretty sure he believes me when I said I checked it before startup. He has to go thru the checklist.

I'm curious whats inside. I bet it was missing a shim or spacer inside the gearbox and the bevel gears shoved apart.
